You've spent over 30 years working across print production, color management, and digital technologies. What's changed most dramatically in the industry since you started your career?
When I started, print was still very analog in most companies. DTP was there in pre-press, but the print process itself was still somewhat archaic. Very little automation, a lot of manual steps. When I visited my first DRUPA, they told us how stupid we are to learn that soon-to-be-outdated job of an offset printer. But as we know, it is still there. In every role I have had since then, I could see the quick introduction of new technology that changed often the process and of course for me it meant life long learning to adopt quick. The biggest changes are really automation, brought use of computers in all aspects and recently of course AI in any shape or form.
Why did you decide to join the advisory board for the Printed Packaging Summit 2026?
I think it is important to share information and help others participate. Events like the summit help raise awareness of our business (Print & Packaging), but they should also provide a clear overview and the insights needed to overcome barriers and explore new technology for success.
From your experience helping converters and brands unlock opportunities in digital print and5, what's the biggest challenge they're facing today and how do you think the summit can help address it?
The challenges are manifold in our industry. I would distinguish between internal and external factors that influence what we do or what someone wants us to do.
Political framework, regulations, competition, customer expectations, ESG, and lack of qualified staff are just a few.
The summit cannot solve these topics, but it should raise awareness and offer solutions to our customers' big questions.
If we can solve a pain point or problem, they are happy to listen. Since this is not a sales event, it should be thought-leadership content and general knowledge sharing.
In your view, what does the future of printed packaging look like? What should converters and brands be preparing for over the next 3-5 years?
They need to adopt quickly, and I believe the future is digital and driven heavily by FMCG brands.
Once they understand the benefit of digital, they will request this as the dominant technology.
This means converters need to find the right solution with the help of the OEMs to be prepared and ready to produce as economically as possible.
Who should be attending the Printed Packaging Summit 2026?
Open-minded people who are ready to listen and learn and to adopt ideas and make it a benefit for themselves.
